CANTUA CREEK, Fresno County — October 28, 2026. A county transportation project could make it easier and safer to walk, use a wheelchair or reach essential destinations in Cantua Creek and neighboring El Porvenir, also known as Three Rocks. Fresno County Public Works and Planning reports that its Cantua Creek and El Porvenir Sidewalk Project is in the design phase and is backed by $4 million in state and federal grants.

What would change on local streets?

The county describes new accessible sidewalks where none exist, replacement of damaged or uneven walkways, upgraded curb ramps and reconstruction of curbs and gutters that currently do not meet accessibility standards. The purpose is to move pedestrians away from dirt paths and vehicle travel lanes and provide safer everyday connections through these rural communities.

Who would benefit?

Fresno County identifies Cantua Elementary School, neighborhood businesses, places of worship and nearby community destinations among the reasons better walking and wheelchair access matters. The Riverdale Swap Meet is also listed as a destination near, rather than inside, the project area. Families, older adults and people with disabilities may all benefit from improvements that connect local homes with services.

Is construction starting now?

The current county project page describes design work, not a completed sidewalk network or an announced October 2026 groundbreaking. The $4 million is the amount of stated grant funding for the combined communities, not an individual allocation to one street in Cantua Creek. Residents should use the county’s proposed-improvements maps and later construction notices to see whether a specific block is included and when any traffic control will be needed.

Where to see the maps

Fresno County provides separate Cantua Creek Proposed Improvements and El Porvenir Proposed Improvements documents from its official project page. The county’s main contact number is (559) 600-5956.
